ASHLEY WALTERS, 29
Seen him in… [TV] Top Boy, Inside Men, Hustle, [films] Sket, Anuvahood, Bullet Boy What’s next… True Love is on BBC One
I became an actor by accident. My mum had me when she was 18 and by 24, she wanted to go back out and rave. So me going to Sylvia Young eatre School was a way for me to do something constructive.
I got the acting bug on Grange Hill. I’d been acting since I was six, I’d done theatre and adverts, but never understood why I was doing it. en I got Grange Hill aged 13 and began to love what I was doing. Bullet Boy was a big thing. It was after So Solid Crew [he was Asher D in the band], I’d just come out of prison [for firearm possession], and no one wanted to work with me. But I said to myself, if I can show people that I’m dedicated, turn up on time, don’t kick off on set and be patient, eventually people will see what I’m doing.
I wouldn’t do EastEnders or Coronation Street. I like doing one-offs, like Inside Men or Top Boy. If I can do a few real gritty four-parters that are essentially films, it’s the best of both worlds.
I love Jersey Shore and TOWIE – I don’t tell a lot of people that. Sometimes I don’t want anything complicated. I just want to laugh.
I find it hard to go to the cinema. As soon as the lights go off, I think it’s bedtime. An hour in, I’m snoring.
